Divorce Options

Which divorce option is right for you?

Determine whether mediation or collaborative divorce is right for you. Ultimately and ideally, each option results in a solution where both parties can move forward on good terms with an agreement that will work not only for today, but for the future as well.

Collaborative Divorce

We represent you as your attorney. Your spouse has his/her own attorney. Both of you agree not to litigate. As your attorney, our role is to help you get clear on what’s really important to you and be heard—possibly in a way you weren’t heard in your marriage. The goal of collaborative divorce is for both attorneys to move you and your spouse together instead of pulling you apart. A team of professionals (from divorce coaches to financial experts) assist in the process to sort out the emotional, legal and financial matters.

Collaborative divorce is right for you if:

  • you and your spouse need assistance with communication
  • you or your spouse find it difficult to fully advocate for yourselves
  • you want a civilized, solutions-based approach
  • you desire privacy & creative resolutions

Mediation

As a mediator we work as a neutral third-party, to help you both come to an understanding about the issues that need to be resolved in order to have a durable divorce agreement. As your mediator, we facilitate your discussions but do not give legal advice or make decisions for you. However, we may provide legal information that may help you to resolve your issues. During the process you may each consult with your own attorneys to help you better advocate for yourself during the mediation process and review the final agreement on your behalf.

Mediation is right for you if:

  • you and your spouse are communicating reasonably well
  • you feel comfortable advocating for yourself
  • you wish to be guided through the use of non-adversarial problem-solving techniques
  • you desire privacy & creative resolutions
